Hendrik Janse van Rensburg, born Namibian and with a treasure trove of knowledge from years of game and livestock farming in the Kalahari, founded Cross Over Africa Tours to show tourists a different side of Namibia and the Kalahari.
As a young man, he drilled for water in Damaraland, the Kalahari, Herero Land, and Nama Land. Traversing the most remote of places, in search of water, meant he lived without the modern conveniences of infrastructure. At night, the moon would be the light by which he would read his books.
With all his time spent in this beautiful part of the world, he soon fell in love with the untouched nature and decided to remain in the Kalahari. In time, he would learn how to identify the different animal spoors, and he became an expert animal tracker.
Cross Over Africa Tours is the result of many years of hard work and an unyielding love for Africa. We want to give our guests the opportunity to explore the wilder side of our continent.
The company is so much more than just another group offering a safari. Cross Over Africa Tours has become a family business. Working alongside Hendrik is his wife Stephanie, who herself was raised in the wild, with her father being a game farmer, and their now-grown children who have inherited their parents’ love for Africa, also work alongside Hendrik. Cross Over Africa Tours is fiercely committed to conservation, knowing that the animals and the landscape are sacred and vulnerable and we leave the land untouched. In every way, we aim to make our Namibia and Kalahari tours as unique and as comfortable as possible. Our 4×4 Namibia tours are ideal for all travellers, from those who bring their own vehicles, to those who wish to hire a vehicle and even for travellers who don’t want to drive but who wish to see Namibia the unconventional way.
Our Namibia and Kalahari tours and safaris are both exclusive and inclusive. By exclusive we mean our tours don’t embark every day or even every week. We offer tours only at certain times of the year when you are able to get the most out of the adventure. We select the seasons offering the best weather, making driving easier, and visibility clearer.
Our tours are also inclusive in that you need just bring yourself and your backpack, we’ll do the rest by helping you rent a 4×4 vehicle and all of the equipment. In the past, we have had guests wanting to bring their own vehicles and camping gear, and we’ve happily accommodated them. Guests can also let either Hendrik or Tobie take the wheel and sit comfortably as passengers for the duration of the tour.
It’s our aim to ensure that you have the most satisfying Namibian holiday, or Kalahari trip, as possible, and we won’t stand in the way of our guests’ comfort. Unlike other tour companies, we are versatile and our packages are flexible, allowing you to add days to your tour to ensure that you get to see everything you’ve come to see!
